Graphic Art offers the following courses:
Diploma of Arts: Graphic Art (12861VIC)
The Diploma of Arts: Graphic Art is a two year full time course
involving study in the following subjects:
- Design Process
- Electronic Design
- Technical Colour Applications
- Technical Illustration
- Typography
- Digital Photography
- Drawing for Illustration
- Finished Art
- Reprographics & Pre press
- Extended Practical Placement
Students learn the skills necessary to produce artwork for commercial purposes using both traditional and electronic means. The workload includes theory and practical elements.
Throughout the course, close industry ties are maintained with frequent visits to sites including printers, advertising and design agencies, in addition to attending exhibitions and trade shows. Representatives are also selected from our 2nd year students to join the working committee for the annual IDEAS Design conference.
These strong industry links allow our Graphic Art students the benefit of a well established and extensive Work Placement Program..
Course Delivery
Students study an average of 6 hours a day for 4 days a week over
32 weeks. A feature of the program is a well established Work Placement
Program where students do 224 hours of work experience in industry.
Entry
Applicants must apply through VTAC and directly to the School of Creative Industries.
Applicants will attend an interview and present a folio of artwork
demonstrating relevant skills. Entry into the course is competitive. Courses are offered at City-Flinders Melbourne and St Albans campuses.
Fees and Kits
The total fee for a full time student is approximately $950. Fee
exemptions and concessions may be available depending on eligibility.
Students need to purchase an art kit prior to commencement of
the course. The approximate cost of the kit is $500.
Facilities
In addition to traditional studios, each campus has high powered
Macintosh labs and equipment to cater for a range of areas and levels
in digital training.
