ABOUT LEVEL 17 ARTSPACE
Architecturally designed and built in 2007, the Level 17 Artspace is located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD visual arts precinct.
The Level 17 Artspace operates within the School of Creative Industries and is situated on the 17th floor of the Victoria University building at 300 Flinders Street, with bird’s eye views over the City.
Designed with professionals, emerging artists and Alumni students in mind, the gallery aims to engage artistic practice that is dynamic, challenging, innovative and experimental. It is suitable for art and new and hybrid media and offers a welcoming environment for critical discussion in contemporary art.
The Level 17 Artspace is committed to the representation of approximately 4 exhibitions per year from all disciplines, as well as annual programs including touring exhibitions from the Melbourne community and its regions.
The Level 17 Artspace works in conjunction with the Visual Art program by providing students with valuable industry experience and encouraging a dialogue with the exhibiting artists. Students provide assistance with installing and dismantling exhibitions, opening nights and attend the artist talks in the gallery.
FACILITIES
The modern, open-plan space is equipped with fully adjustable track lighting with dimmers, three fixed digital film projectors and three fixed video screens, plus facilities for audio, DVD and computer input.
The Artspace floor features polished timber boards and a staircase. The space is designed for flexibility: panels can be rolled across windows to provide more hanging wall space or rolled away to create a larger view of the cityscape. Movable internal panels on wheels allow for the creation of custom exhibition spaces.
