Performance
Solo Residency Program
Mid-career theatre, dance and performance artists with at least five years of performance experience are invited to consider a residency at the Footscray Nicholson Campus performance studios. The residency provides the opportunity for you to investigate your performance making process toward the making of a live work.
How does it work?
Up to ten artists and/or companies will be in residence at the Performance Studios at the Footscray Nicholson campus at any one time. You will have on-going access to studio and theatre space and benefit from the support of other resident solo artists, companies and staff mentors through selected group studio sessions, readings and discussion groups.
You will also have access to specialist workshops and masterclasses if they are offered.
You can apply to attend your own selected international workshop or period of training or development in a country of your choice with travel grant support from VU International (up to $4,000).
The residency allows you the time and support to explore your performance making process and to seek out potential that may be latent in your performance work and artistic life.
This program is based on a vocational model and does NOT ask you to re-organise your artistic intentions to produce academic writing. You can however use the residency to refine an idea for post-graduate research.
In the final phase of your residency you are invited to develop and rehearse a performance outcome. This outcome can be in any mode or level that suits the work.
How do I apply?
To apply, send an up-to-date CV with a cover letter (maximum 500 words) that briefly describes your existing practice and how you can benefit from this residency to perform@vu.edu.au.
